Professor Robinson was most recently Senior Counsel with the Appellate Staff of the Department of Justice’s Civil Division. On behalf of the United States, he has argued over 120 appeals before every federal court of appeals in the country, including three en banc cases, as well as before several state appellate courts. While at the Justice Department, Professor Robinson drafted briefs for the Office of the Solicitor General in numerous cases at the petition and merits stages in the U.S. Supreme Court. Professor Robinson is a graduate of Yale Law School, where he served as Note Editor on the Yale Law Journal, and he also has a B.A. in English from Yale College. Professor Robinson served as law clerk for the late Robert L. Carter, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York. Before joining the Justice Department, Professor Robinson was an associate for five years at the law firm of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan. Professor Robinson has frequently served as a judge and lecturer on appellate advocacy at the Attorney General’s National Advocacy Center, and he has provided training on brief writing and oral advocacy at a number of federal agencies.
