The Law Center will open on time, Tuesday, January 27, 2015, but liberal leave is in effect.
All designated emergency employees must report to work on time. All other employees may take unscheduled leave, but should contact their supervisor to discuss the needs of their unit and individual circumstances. Michelle M. Ueland is an ESL Specialist in the Graduate Legal Writing Program, Office of Graduate Programs, Center for Global Legal English. Dr. Ueland received a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies from the College of Education at the University of New Mexico with a concentration in Educational Thought and a minor in Educational Administration and Leadership. She holds a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the Universidad Nacional in Heredia, Costa Rica, and a Bachelor’s degree in English literature and women’s studies from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Professor Ueland brings 20 years teaching experience to the Center for Global Legal English and has taught English to adults from more than 50 different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. She has also worked for the Center for Applied Linguistics on adult ESL assessment and the Costa Rican Ministry of Education in curriculum development and teacher education. Her academic interests include instructed adult language acquisition, bilingual, bicultural, and binational identity development, family literacy, and discourse analysis. Dr. Ueland learned Spanish as an adult and is certified as fully bilingual having earned the Diploma Superior de Español como Segunda Idioma from the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain, and The Cervantes Institute, New York.
