Faculty AssistantsThere are faculty assistants located at stations on the fourth and fifth floors of McDonough, and on the sixth floor of Hotung. Each assistant provides basic support services for approximately ten faculty members. Our current Faculty Assistants are:
Faculty assistants:
In addition, assistants can coordinate services for transcription, manuscript editing, document conversion, copyright for course materials, and facilities assistance. We regret that we are unable to provide assistance for your personal needs or for non-Georgetown business. The lack of privacy where the assistants sit also prevents our staff from supporting litigation work and the exam typing/grading process. Assistant Availability Faculty assistants presently work eight hours per day scheduled between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break between the hours of 12 noon and 2 p.m. University policy requires that employees must take a lunch break. Faculty Support employs a partnership program with our assistants. If your assigned assistant is either out or otherwise unable to meet your deadline, please contact his or her back-up. If the back-up is unable to meet your requirement, please contact the Faculty Support Coordinator, Cathy Strain (x9285). She will find alternative resources to meet the deadline. Furnishings, Moving, and Storage Attempts have been made to create a thoughtful, methodical approach to purchasing new and replacing old furnishings. Needs are prioritized and furnishings purchased as funding becomes available. Resources are spread among areas used by students, faculty, and staff through the prioritizing process. Requests for new furniture are heard annually by the Finance Committee who sets the budget for each year. For further information, faculty can contact Mark Remigio (x9126) and all other departments can contact Elizabeth Henderson (x9431). Space planning is done with the direction of the Dean and the department requesting the change. Considerations for furniture changes, alterations and additional space possibilities are analyzed carefully. Moving services are available as needed to reduce the time-consuming and disruptive activities associated with changing offices. Professional moving services handle the larger move projects, while facilities management staff members handle the smaller moving assignments. Moves completed by facilities management are scheduled for Friday. Effective planning and execution will result in minimal down time, disruptions in schedules and damage to office furnishings. Efforts to provide faculty with modest, safe, and convenient file storage are evolving. Faculty are asked to limit their onsite storage to 10 boxes. Faculty storage requests should be coordinated through the faculty assistant to Elizabeth Henderson (x9341).

Codes to operate these machines are issued to faculty, student organizations, and most departments. In our continuing effort to go green, each copier is set to produce two-sided copies. Self-service photocopiers can be found at the following locations:
Printing Most faculty share a laser printer at their assistant’s work station although some have their own desktop printer in their office. When printing a lengthy document high speed printing is available in faculty support We also have the capability for you to send documents to our color printer and do the networked Xerox machines on your floor. The Xerox machines can print multiple copies, collate, staple, etc. This service requires the loading of a special driver so contact faculty support to get that loaded on. In addition we have capabilities for bound printing, brochure making and Lexis and Westlaw printing in the faculty support office. Color Printing High Speed Printing Printing to the Copiers Bound Printing Lexis and Westlaw Printing Faxing In addition to the individual fax machines with each assistant, there is an additional fax machine for the faculty that is located in Room 475. The incoming number to this fax is (202) 662-9444. Faxes received on this machine are filed in the trays next to the machine by the last name of the recipient. Faculty assistants check these boxes daily and deliver faxes to faculty members. Sylvia Johnson (x9280), Support Services Coordinator, maintains the faculty and staff stock of office supplies and monitors access to, and supply of, toner and printer cartridges. We have basic supplies (post-it notes, pens, legal pads, and the like) available in Room 475. Please record what you’ve taken on the sign-out sheet so we can track and re-order supplies as needed. To order office supplies which we do not regularly stock, faculty members should ask their assistant to order these supplies for them. The assistant will complete the necessary paperwork and place the request with Sylvia Johnson. Orders are filled after inventory is checked, once a week, usually on Thursdays. Emergency orders may also be placed. Orders placed before 3 p.m. are usually delivered by the following day. When the supplies arrive, Sylvia will notify the faculty assistant assigned to the faculty member. Georgetown Printing and Graphics Orders October 20, 2008 (as) |
