Established in 1998, the Law Firm Challenge reconnects alumni to the Law Center and promotes participation in the Law Annual Fund. In 2010-2011, the program involved more than 2,200 alumni at 51 firms. Firms compete annually for the highest percentage of participation and most dollars raised for the Law Center.

The Law Firm Challenge provides a unique opportunity for alumni to make a difference in the life of the Law Center. Volunteers at each firm encourage colleagues to give to the Law Annual Fund. During the competition, volunteers receive regular progress updates, invitations to Georgetown Law events, and strategies to facilitate peer solicitations.

At the end of the Challenge, the names of those firms with the highest participation rates are engraved on a plaque that is displayed prominently outside the Office of Career Services in McDonough Hall. The names of those firms that raise the most on behalf of Georgetown Law are engraved on a trophy that is displayed in the Timothy and Linda O’Neill Alumni Welcoming Center in the Eric E. Hotung International Law Center Building. All donors are recognized annually in our Honor Roll of Donors.

The Law Firm Challenge supports the Law Annual Fund, which provides resources for the dean to use where the need is greatest. It is this foundation of private support that keeps Georgetown Law on the cutting edge of legal education.

The Law Annual Fund supports:

  • Financial Aid
  • The Edward Bennett Williams Library
  • Clinics
  • Journals
  • Equal Justice Foundation (EJF) Summer Fellowships
  • Student Counseling
  • Student Organizations

Any gift to the Law Center, made by an alumnus/a from a participating firm (between July 1st and June 30th), counts toward the Law Firm Challenge.

To participate in the Law Firm Challenge, or request more information about the program, please contact Dave Stone, Associate Director of the Law Annual Fund at 202-662-9375 or das78@law.georgetown.edu.
