New Certificates Beginning in Fall 2012
Beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year, Georgetown University Law Center will offer two new Certificate programs that LL.M. students may pursue in conjunction with their Master of Laws studies. The Certificate in International Taxation and the Certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution grow out of Georgetown’s strengths in these subject areas, including the quality of faculty, the wealth of courses and seminars offered, and the many other opportunities, including externships, available at Georgetown to students who wish to specialize in these subjects.
Certificate in International Taxation. Students pursuing the LL.M. in Taxation (both U.S. and foreign-educated students) may qualify for this Certificate in conjunction with their LL.M. Completion of the Certificate will require a minimum of 10 “specialization credits” from a list of courses designated as the International Taxation curriculum. Among these 10 specialization credits, students must successfully complete a course covering inbound and outbound U.S. international tax; a course dealing with tax treaties; and a course dealing with transfer pricing.
Certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution. Both U.S. and foreign-educated LL.M. students may pursue this certificate in conjunction with their LL.M. To earn the certificate, candidates must complete a minimum of 10 credits from a list of courses designated under the International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Certificate curriculum. Among these 10 specialization credits, students must complete a course in international arbitration; a course in dispute resolution; and an additional course from a list covering topics related to arbitration and dispute resolution.
