U.S. Tax Court Clerkships
|

|
Clerkships give a student the opportunity to observe first-hand the judicial system and to apply many of the concepts they may learn or have learned in the LL.M. program. In addition, some clerkships provide an ideal mentor experience in which the judge will help his or her clerk develop critical listening and writing skills and may even offer advice on career options and possibly assist the clerk in his or her job search. Serving as clerk also provides a wide exposure to a variety of tax issues and networking opportunities, with other judges, clerks and attorneys who appear before the Court. For all of the above reasons, a clerkship can be one of the ideal jobs for a recent graduate of the LL.M. program and not only looks impressive on one’s resume, but also can be in an invaluable experience as well. How do you Apply for a Tax Court Clerkship? Students who wish to apply for a clerkship with the United States Tax Court should submit their application for prospective vacancies as soon as possible in order to receive consideration for all positions. In general, law clerks of the United States Tax Court Judges and Special Trial Judges are recruited as vacancies occur (even during the course of academic year); however, most positions become available in the summer months. We recommend that you apply to all the judges' chambers and also review the Law Clerk Application section of the U.S. Tax Court Web site for current recruiting information regarding judges that are hiring. Click each judge's name to view additional information or requirements for Law Clerk applicants. It is advised that candidates submit their applications for these positions no later than early Fall of the preceding year in order to receive consideration for available positions. It is the policy of U.S. Tax Court, as an equal opportunity employer, to attract and retain the best-qualified people available, without regard to race, gender, religion, national origin, age, or disability. For more information about the application process for the U.S. Tax Court Clerkship visit the court's Web site at http://www.ustaxcourt.gov/lc_program.htm.
