TIP will take place on Friday, March 2, 2012, at the Embassy Suites Hotel (900 Tenth Street, N.W., in Washington, D.C.). Employers are responsible for making their own reservations and for all hotel expenses. Program participants receive a special,
discounted hotel rate of $276.00 (per single occupancy room, depending on availability) for reservations made prior to Thursday, February 2, 2012.  (Please note that rates for double, triple and quad occupancy have been negotiated and will be reflected if you select additional adults when booking your room through the website listed below.) If you check out of your room by 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2012, you will only be charged a half-day rate for that day.

Once you have registered for TIP, reservations can be made through 1-800-EMBASSY or by booking online at the specific TIP group reservation Web site.

The group reservation code is "XAT." Each employer should reserve one room for each interview schedule and should identify the entity they represent as a participant in the TIP Program.

Interviews during TIP will take place in the employer’s individual suite at the hotel. Please note that employers may not interview in their D.C. office, as student schedules will not permit travel outside of the hotel on the Program date.

4.  Can employers select their own interview candidates?

Yes.  TIP is a 100% pre-screened program. Employers submit a job description and request resumes and other application materials (cover letter, J.D. and LL.M. transcripts) in the online system. These requirements are communicated directly to students, who will then be aware of the employer’s hiring criteria when deciding whether or not to bid for an interview. Employers must provide Georgetown Law with candidate and alternate selections in the online system by Monday, February 13, 2012.

Employers may interview students under a 20-minute interview schedule or a 30-minute interview schedule.

The candidate pool will include:

  • Tax LL.M. candidates from Georgetown Law and NYU, including both U.S.- and foreign-trained lawyers. Most are pursuing their degrees as full-time students, but some part-time candidates will also be available for interviews.
  • Tax LL.M. graduates from Georgetown Law and NYU who are now in their final year as law clerks for Judges of the U.S. Tax Court.
  • Georgetown Law and NYU students enrolled in the J.D./LL.M. joint degree program in Taxation. Note: Georgetown Law joint degree students must have applied to the LL.M. portion of the program as of October 15, 2011 to be eligible to participate in TIP.
  • Georgetown Law students enrolled for the Certificate in Employee Benefits, Certificate in Estate Planning and Certificate in State and Local Taxation programs.

5. Can employers specify hiring criteria and provide job descriptions?

Yes. The simple online registration form provides ample space for employers to provide as lengthy or as brief of a job description or hiring criteria summary as they wish. This information will be communicated directly to students, who will then be aware of the employer’s needs and requirements when deciding whether to bid for an interview.

As both New York University School of Law and Georgetown University Law Center do not rank students within their respective LL.M. programs, employers will not be able to specify “top third of class” or “top ___ per cent” of class.

6.  How many students may an employer interview, and for how long?

Employers may interview as many students as they like in interview slots of either 20 or 30 minutes. If you would like to interview more students, you can add additional schedules at a fee of $300 per schedule. If you would like to interview fewer than the maximum number of students on a schedule, or to interview students only for a portion of the Program day, we are happy to accommodate such requests.

7.  How does scheduling work?

Employers select the students whom they would like to interview. The students then select their own interview time.  Employers may “block out” certain portions of the day for breaks, or to allow interviews to start later in the day or finish earlier. Once an employer has selected the students they would like to interview, the interviewees are notified and are instructed to choose an interview time through our automated online system.  When a student logs in, he/she will see all a list of all available interview slots – i.e., all slots which have not been blocked out by the employer or filled by another student. Once all selected students have scheduled their interviews, employers may log in to view their schedules.

Private employers who register to interview at TIP pay an initial registration fee of $400. Government employers pay a fee of $300.  To add other regional offices or a second interview schedule, employers pay an additional fee of $300.  For example, if you are a private entity and your Washington, D.C. office signs up today to interview 13 students, and your New York office decides next week to participate as well, and that office wants to interview 15 more students, the firm’s total registration fee would be $700. For a government agency, the total fee would be $600. Employers may also choose to collect resumes only and the fee for this option is $200. Employers using the resume collection option will also be able to manage the selection process online, up until the students have submitted their resumes. After that point, employers may contact the students they wish to interview directly and not through Symplicity.

9.  Can our firm simply collect resumes rather than interviewing on campus?
