Focus on Wellness ruler

Law school will be an exciting, new challenge for you. You will make new friends in a new setting, probably leaving everything that is familiar to you. You may already be feeling some pressure and stress of this new life. You are not alone, though. Everyone will have to make personal adjustments in their new environment. Here are some suggestions that can help you manage your new situation:

  •  Plan your time and prioritize your work. This will give you a sense of control over what you must accomplish and will help you to set your schedule for both work and play time.
  • Take care of your body. This means eating right, getting enough sleep, exercising and relaxing. Constant fatigue can be a trigger for depression.
  • Join an extracurricular activity, make a new friend. Friends can make a strange place feel more comfortable.
  • Take time for yourself every day. Even if it is only 15 minutes, find some time for you. Take a warm bath, a walk, read a book or go to the museums.

If your new environment seems to overwhelm you, don't hesitate to seek assistance from your student health center, campus ministry, or other health professional. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone. We are all here to assist you.
