The Human Rights Institute serves as the focal point for human rights activities at Georgetown University Law Center, and, in so doing, promotes Georgetown Law's role as a key actor in the human rights community. The Institute pursues this goal by two primary means: by cultivating Georgetown Law as a leading forum for discussion, debate, and collaboration on human rights issues; and by developing the next generation of human rights lawyers through a robust human rights law curriculum, academic and professional advising, and the facilitation of student involvement in human rights work.

The Human Rights Institute is very pleased to announce three post-graduate fellowship opportunities for Georgetown Law graduates (J.D. only).  One fellowship is for a person to work at Georgetown Law's Human Rights Institute.  The other two fellowships are "open," which means that the fellows can select their host organization.  One person may apply to both types of fellowships.  The application deadline is Friday, February 26, 2010.  For more information about these opportunities, click here

"Refugee Crisis in America: Iraqis and Their Resettlement Experience" is the culmination of nine months of research by a team of Georgetown Law students who examined and assessed the United States’ policies, practices, and legal framework with regard to the resettlement of Iraqi refugees.  Through this project, researchers conducted extensive interviews with refugees, policy makers, state refugee coordinators, and NGOs in Washington D.C., Detroit, San Diego, and Amman, Jordan.  The project was proposed and designed by members of the student group Georgetown Human Rights Action, and carried out in partnership with the Human Rights Institute.  To watch a webcast of the report launch, please click here.  To read the full report, please click on the link below.
