THE KROLL FAMILY HUMAN RIGHTS FELLOWSHIP
Host Organization: Human Rights First

Georgetown University Law Center is soliciting applications for the
2008-2009 Kroll Family Human Rights Fellowship at Human Rights First

The Kroll Family Human Rights Fellowship will provide a recent Georgetown University Law Center graduate (J.D. only) the opportunity to work for one year at Human Rights First, likely in the Washington DC office. Depending on the needs of the organization, the fellow will conduct research and analysis; provide support for lobbying and legislative advocacy; draft letters, advocacy alerts, press statements, background analysis documents, legislative testimony, and reports; monitor human rights laws and regulations; and cultivate relationships with national, regional, and international actors. The fellow’s substantive area of focus will be determined as part of the selection process.

Eligibility: This fellowship is open to 2008, 2007, and 2006 Georgetown Law graduates. Only J.D. graduates are eligible. Preference will be given to 2008 graduates or recent graduates who entered into a judicial clerkship upon graduation.

Desired Skills and Experience:
1. Excellent oral and written communication skills
2. Demonstrated commitment to human rights advocacy
3. Experience researching human rights laws and policies
4. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
5. Outstanding organizational skills and capacity to work under pressure

Term: The fellowship will begin in September 2008 and conclude in September 2009.

Salary: The salary for 2007-2008 was $46,984. The salary for 2008-2009 is currently under review. Benefits will be provided by Human Rights First.

Georgetown University Law Center is soliciting applications for the
2008-2009 Kroll Family Human Rights Fellowship at Human Rights Watch

The Kroll Family Human Rights Fellowship will provide a recent Georgetown University Law Center graduate (J.D. only) the opportunity to work for one year at Human Rights Watch, in its New York, Washington DC, or London office. Fellows at Human Rights Watch monitor human rights developments in various countries, conduct on-site investigations, draft reports on human rights conditions, and engage in advocacy aimed at publicizing and curtailing human rights violations. Past fellows have conducted fact-finding missions to, among other places, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Burma, Cambodia, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Hong Kong, India (including Kashmir and Punjab), Iran, Israel, Kenya, Malaysia, Moldova, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Uganda, the U.S.-Mexican border, and Venezuela. The fellow’s substantive area of focus will be determined by Human Rights Watch based on organizational need following the fellow’s selection.

Open 2008-2009 Kroll Family Human Rights Fellowship

The Kroll Family Human Rights Fellowship will provide a recent Georgetown University Law Center graduate (J.D. only) the opportunity to work for one year at a human rights organization of his/her choosing in the United States or abroad. Qualifying projects/positions will seek to enforce or influence human rights law, as laid out in international human rights treaties, conventions, or declarations. Proposals that focus on race relations, women's rights, civil rights in Israel, or civil rights in Muslim countries or communities are highly encouraged.

Eligibility: This fellowship is open to 2008, 2007, and 2006 Georgetown Law graduates. Only J.D. graduates are eligible. Preference will be given to 2008 graduates or recent graduates who entered into a judicial clerkship upon graduation.

Term: The fellowship will run for one year, from the fall of 2008 to the fall of 2009.

Salary: $40,000-$48,000 (to be determined based on the cost of living in the proposed location and the host organization’s ability to cover benefits, relocation expenses etc.)
