The Institute contributes to public discourse on IEL by its research and publications but also by organizing various meetings, panel discussions and conferences on particularly topical issues relating to WTO case law and practice, organizing conferences, presentations, and other discussions under the umbrella of its research projects.

Although Washington has enormous resources and a large number of activities relating to international economic policy and affairs, the IIEL is the only primarily research-oriented "think tank" in Washington that is devoted to the legal interaction of such policy and affairs. Thus, the IIEL is playing a rather unique role in the city that can be described as the "Mecca" for international economic policy. This fact has been mentioned to members of the Institute by persons who have indicated the importance already manifested in this regard by the IIEL's presence and activities.
