Applying for the IIEL Fellows Program

Eligibility

The IIEL Fellows Program is open to LL.M. and S.J.D. students; Visiting Researchers and Visiting Scholars at Georgetown University Law Center who have a strong interest in International Economic Law; and occasionally to senior J.D. students who have background and experience in this area.  From time to time the IIEL also invites former senior government officials or senior practitioners to contribute to the activities of the IIEL as Distinguished Visiting Fellows.  (There is no application procedure for Distinguished Visiting Fellows; they join IIEL by invitation only.)

Categories of IIEL Fellows

  • IIEL Student Fellows - IIEL Fellows generally are LL.M. or S.J.D. students enrolled at Georgetown Law who have a particular interest in international economic law.  Occasionally senior J.D. students at Georgetown Law with background and expertise in international economic law may also be selected as IIEL Fellows.
  • IIEL Visiting Fellows - IIEL Visiting Fellows are either Visiting Scholars or Visiting Researchers who have been invited by Georgetown Law's Office of Transnational Programs to come to Georgetown Law under the auspices of the Visiting Scholar and Visiting Researcher Program.  Visiting Researchers usually are doctoral students, or post-doctoral students preparing for academic careers, who come to research and write about a wide range of international economic law related issues for various periods up to one academic year.  Visiting Scholars usually are experienced legal scholars and professors typically on sabbatical or on leave from their current academic position.  IIEL Visiting Fellows are expected to present their works-in-progress to the IIEL Fellows and Faculty Associates at a weekly research workshop organized for that purpose.
