The Institute of International Economic Law (IIEL) at Georgetown Law Center facilitates thoughtful and scholarly research on a broad range of subjects that concern the law of international economic activity.

 

SAVE THE DATES

May 13 - 14, 2008.  The Eighth Annual WTO Conference, organized by the British Institute of International and Comparative Law in conjunction with the IIEL, will be held in London May 13-14, 2008.  Information is available at http://www.biicl.org/events/view/-/id/200/.

November 17 - 21, 2008.  The IIEL will conduct its third Academy of WTO Law and Policy at the Law Center from November 17-21. Information on this week-long, non-degree professional development course on WTO law and policy is available at http://www.law.georgetown.edu/iielacademy.

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of international law, Professor John H. Jackson, IIEL Director, was presented the Manley O. Hudson Medal by the American Society of International Law on April 11, 2008.  Established in 1956, the Manley O. Hudson Medal is awarded on an occasional basis for “pre-eminent scholarship and achievement in international law.”  For more information, a complete release is available at   http://www.law.georgetown.edu/news/releases/April.14.2008.html.

On October 22, 2007, WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy gave an address at Georgetown Law, citing examples of countries adjusting their plans in response to comments from other WTO members and he predicted that peer review will become even more important as trade barriers change in nature.  His speech is available on the WTO website at http://www.wto.org/english/news_e/sppl_e/sppl78_e.htm.
