The first annual Sidley - IIEL WTO Moot Court Competition was held on April 14 and 15, 2003, at Georgetown University Law Center and the offices of Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP. Four teams participated, two from Georgetown University Law Center and two from George Washington University Law School.

The teams that vied for the Championship in 2003 were selected through a series of Preliminary Rounds in which every team argued against every other team once. A team from George Washington University Law School won the Championship. Panelists included experts in international trade from government agencies, embassies and universities. The first year of the Competition was a major success and generated interest from universities around the world.
