Degrees and Courses Offered
Arguably, Georgetown Law offers
more courses on International Economic Law (IEL), specifically
WTO law, than any other law faculty in
the
world. Its library facilities are virtually
unparalleled. Washington D.C. offers access to other
information relevant to IEL like no other city does.
With regard to IEL, Georgetown Law is extremely
well situated for all students wishing to pursue
one of the
degrees offered
as well as for Visiting Scholars
and Researchers.
Georgetown Law
not only benefits from the many distinguished international
economic law specialists
among its faculty,
but also draws on the rich community of practitioners
in Washington, D.C., who help bridge the gap between
legal
theory and practice.
The Law Center offers the largest
curriculum in
the United States in International
Economic Law and International
Law. During the current academic year, over 80
courses and seminars focus on various aspects
of international
and/or foreign law.
Academic
Programs Offered At Georgetown Law
J.D. Program
The Juris
Doctor Program strives to prepare students to be superb
lawyers who combine the highest analytical ability with
ethical sensitivity. Students may pursue their legal education
through the full-time (Day
Division) or a part-time (Evening
Division) curriculum.
Master
of Laws
The Graduate
Program provides five different Master of Laws programs:
The
first two Master Programs are designed specifically for international
students. These programs combine a core of American
Law requirements with elective courses tailored to international students'
individual interests.
S.J.D. Program
Georgetown Law
also offers the opportunity to pursue a Doctor
of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) degree. S.J.D. candidates undertake
a full-time year of course work, research, and writing, followed by a year
of concentrated research, and the completion of a dissertation.
Visiting Researcher / Scholar
Program
Georgetown also welcomes
visitors from around the world who wish to come to
the Law Center, not primarily to enroll in classes, but
to
conduct their
own scholarly research in international economic law, taking advantage
of the outstanding resources available in the John Wolff International and Comparative Law Library. Each year, the Georgetown Law international
community is expanded by Visiting Scholars (usually professors and
scholars established in their careers) and Visiting Researchers (often
doctoral
students or those preparing for academic careers) who come to write
and think about various legal issues. Individuals interested in this
program
must be selected by a Georgetown Law faculty committee to be invited to take
advantage of the Georgetown Law facilities.
