IIEL Academy of WTO Law

In Fall 2006, Georgetown Law's Institute of International Economic Law (IIEL) brought nearly sixty professionals from eleven different countries to campus to attend the inaugural Academy of WTO Law & Policy.  The second Annual Academy, on October 29-November 2, 2007, brought nearly 80 participants to campus from sixteen different countries.  The purpose of the Academy is to provide intensive instruction in the legal obligations and policy underpinnings of the WTO and its agreements, in the context of how the WTO operates and how it relates to national governments.  This non-degree course is designed to build global capacity to take advantage of the multilateral trading system, by training legal professionals, trade policy officials, members of the international business and NGO communities, academics, and others – including those from developing countries and transition economies.  The week-long program is taught by international trade law experts, many of whom negotiated the WTO Agreements at issue.  A law degree is not necessary to attend the Academy.

Please note that, to enhance each participant's experience, space is limited.  Because the 2006 program sold out, early registration is recommended.  Those who register early also will qualify for discounted tuition.  Thank you for your interest in the Academy, and in Georgetown Law.
