Georgetown's Institute of International Economic Law (IIEL) has long offered a Certificate in WTO Studies to students enrolled in degree programs who complete special coursework and other requirements. The Certificate program has generated interest in the United States and abroad, not only from students but also from professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge of WTO law but who are unable to undertake a degree program. In response to this need for executive education on point, the inaugural Academy of WTO Law & Policy took place at Georgetown Law in the Fall of 2006. It has since become a fixture on the IIEL's annual, academic calendar. We look forward to welcoming our fifth class of Academy participants this Fall, and welcome your interest in the program. The Academy is an intensive professional development program on the law and policy of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Its purpose is to provide intensive examination of the legal obligations and policy underpinnings of the WTO and its agreements, in the context of how the WTO operates and how it relates to national governments. This non-degree program is designed to build global capacity to take advantage of the multilateral trading system, by training legal professionals, trade policy officials, members of the international business, IGO and NGO communities, academics, and others – including those from developing countries and transition economies. Academy speakers are international trade law experts, many of whom negotiated the WTO Agreements at issue. A law degree is not necessary to attend the Academy. In order to enhance each participant's learning experience, space is limited, though we make every effort to accommodate interested attendees. Because of the seminar-like environment, early registration is recommended in order to guarantee a seat. Those who register early also will qualify for discounted program fees. Thank you for your interest in the Academy, and in Georgetown Law.
