Academic Counseling for International LL.M. Students ruler

The Law Center offers two degree programs specifically designed for attorneys educated outside the U.S: an LL.M. (general studies) and an LL.M. (International Legal Studies). Foreign trained attorneys may also apply to the specialized programs in Tax or Securities and Financial Regulation.

The Office of Graduate Programs works one-on-one with students to support their academic, extracurricular, and professional goals. We also provide visa counseling to our students to ensure that they remain in compliance with U.S. immigration rules.

There are three academic advisors available to assist our international students, including Ms. Dorothy M. Mayer, who is the primary academic advisor for our international students.  Our Director of the Graduate Tax and Securities Regulation Programs and the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs are also available to provide academic advice. Our academic advisors provide the following services:

  •     Meeting with students to discuss their academic schedules and making recommendations about courses relevant to their academic and professional growth.
  •     Issuing an International Student Newsletter to highlight academic, professional and social events.
  •     Working with Georgetown law alumni in Washington , D.C. and throughout the world to seek their support in sponsoring international internships and networking with current students and recent graduates on professional development issues.
