Visiting Researchers are a valuable part of the Georgetown Law community. The following are our current visitors: Buhm-Suk Baek is a visiting researcher from South Korea, where he is a Research Fellow at Advocates Korea. His research expands on his S.J.D. dissertation on "Human Rights Institutions as Medium," examining whether and how national human rights institutions can be a driving force for establishing regional human rights institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. Sadeq Bigdeli is a visiting researcher from New Zealand, where he is a professor at the University of Waikato School of Law. Juan Etcheverry is a visiting researcher from Argentina, where he is Professor of Law and Philosophy and Director of the J.D. Program at the Austral University Law School. He is undertaking a comparative analysis of arbitrary judgments in Supreme Court decisions in Argentina and the United States. His visit continues through February 25, 2012. Christian Frank is a visiting researcher from Germany, where he is a Ph.D. student at the Max-Planck-Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg and a Lecturer at the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg. His research focuses on the legality of the exclusive collective sale of rights to televise sporting events under European antitrust law. His visit continues through March 9, 2012. His current research project aims to investigate the feasibility and appropriateness of bilateral arrangements between the U.S. and Australia dealing with judicial jurisdiction and mutual recognition and enforcement of judgments. Yong Geng is a visiting researcher from China, who was most recently a Visiting Professor at the University of Akron School of Law. His research focuses on the role of international law in the U.S. courts. He is also developing materials for teaching international law in China. His visit continues through September 30, 2012. Ariane Guimarães is a visiting researcher from Brazil, where she is a Tax Attorney at Mattos Filho Law Firm and a Tax Law Professor at the University of Brasilia. An Hertogen is a visiting researcher from Belgium and is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Her research focuses on how trade liberalization agreements affect the allocation of regulatory jurisdiction between trading partners to respond to transboundary problems. Lijun Hu is a visiting researcher from China, where she is a Senior Staff Member on the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration. John Ip is a visiting researcher from New Zealand, where he is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland Faculty of Law. His research explores how legal systems and institutions can ensure appropriate governance over the executive's counterterrorism efforts and how to achieve the goal of effective oversight over executive counterterrorism. Han-Jin Jeong is a visiting researcher from South Korea, where he is a tax inspector at the National Tax Service, working in the investigation department. Jung Joong Kim is a visiting researcher from South Korea, where he is a Judge on the Seoul Family Court. His research focuses on the U.S. legal system with regard to domestic violence. Jahyeon Ku is a visiting researcher from South Korea, where he is a Public Prosecutor in the Finance and Tax Crimes Department. His research focuses on the grounds for retrial in criminal proceedings in the United States and other common law countries. His visit continues through December 20, 2012. Joao de Lima, Jr. is a visiting researcher from Brazil, where he attends the Masters Program of Economic Law at University of Sao Paulo Faculty of Law. Ferdinando Marullo di Condojanni is a visiting researcher from Italy, where he is pursuing a doctorate at the University of Pisa. His research focuses on the U.S. civil tax trial system. Norimasa Matsubara is a Judge on the Matsuyama District Court and will be a Visiting Scholar at the Law Center during the 2011-2012 academic year. His research will focus on a comparative study of the legal systems of Japan and the United States, particularly the adversarial nature of the United States civil procedure system. Akuorkor Plahar is a visiting researcher from Ghana and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in International Relations and Diplomacy at the Centre d'Etudes Diplomatiques et Strategiques in Paris. Alvaro Andres Tellez is a visiting researcher from Colombia, where he is a Professor and Researcher at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Law School.
