International Student Visa Regulations

Welcome to Georgetown University Law Center. This website is designed to inform our international students about the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and USCIS (United States Citizenship & Immigration Services) regulations and policies. We will work closely with you to advise you and provide updated information about issues affecting your student status. Please review this information frequently and contact us if you have questions or concerns. Although we offer professional and up-to-date guidance, the information we provide is of a general nature and should not to be construed as legal advice. We have two advisors with whom you should consult on questions regarding immigration regulations, Ms. Indira Marin Dingledine and Ms. Dorothy Mayer. Ms. Dingledine will serve as your primary immigration advisor. Please contact her at 202-662-9319 or via e-mail. Most Law Center international students enter the United States on F-1 student visas. Some enter on Exchange Visitor, or J-1, visas. The information on this page related to immigration matters is directed at students in F or J status. An international student holding another visa status has rights and restrictions different from the F-1 and J-1 students and should consult us for special information regarding that status. Note: We send all announcements about immigration rules/policy to you through your Georgetown issued e-mail account. We do not use alternate accounts, so please be sure to activate your e-mail account and check it weekly.
