1. Right click on the Symantec Antivirus Shield located in the Taskbar, next to the clock.

   

2. The Symantec Antivirus window will open.

   

3. Click on the word File in the menu bar.
4. Choose the option Schedule Updates.
5. The Schedule Virus Definition Updates dialog will appear.

   

6. Click on the Schedule button.
7. The Virus Definition Update Schedule dialog will appear.

   

8. Change the frequency, day and time accordingly. (Please see the note below.)
9. Click on the OK button.
10. You will return to the Schedule Virus Definition Updates dialog.
11. Click on that OK button.
12. You will return to the Symantec Antivirus window.
13. Click on the Exit button.
14. Your new update scheduling will now go into effect.

Note: The IST Department recommends that you schedule your automatic updates to run daily. In addition, you can click on the Advanced button on the Virus Definition Update Schedule dialog to display the Advanced Schedule Options dialog. Once there, set the Handle Missed Events Within field to one (1) day and the Perform Update Within Plus Or Minus field to 300 minutes.
