Copying a Formula Using an Absolute Reference |
- Select the cell that contains the formula you want to copy.
- Create the absolute reference within the formula by selecting the cell
reference in the Formula bar and pressing the F4 key. (You
can also type a $ around the cell reference, i.e., $B$1.)
- Point the cursor to the lower right-hand corner of the cell until the cursor
changes from an arrow to a solid cross (+).
- Press down and hold down the left mouse button while dragging the mouse
down a column or across a row.
- The cells that you dragged the mouse through will now contain the repeated
formula, which in turn will contain the absolute reference.
Note: The constant value will stay the same, no matter where
the formula is copied, as the dollar signs make the cell reference absolute
i.e., $B$1.
