CONFIGURING MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2003 TO SEND AND RECEIVE LAWMAIL

For those of you who would like to configure Microsoft Outlook 2003 to send
and receive LawMail, please make sure that the full client version is installed
on your personal computer. (Please note that Microsoft Outlook 2003 and Microsoft
Outlook Express are not the same application.) The configuring instructions
are listed below.
- Close Outlook. (Outlook cannot be running when you configure it
to send and receive LawMail.)
- Open the Control Panel and switch to the Classic View.
- Click on the Mail icon.
- The Mail Setup dialog will open. (If you do not have another
email profile setup, the Mail dialog will open when you
click on the Mail icon. If that occurs, proceed with Step
8.)

- Click on the Show Profiles button.
- The Mail dialog will open.

- Enable the Prompt for a Profile to be Used field.
- Click on the Add button.
- The New Profile dialog will open.

- Type a name for your LawMail profile in the Profile Name
field and then click on the OK button.
- The Email Accounts Wizard dialog will
open.
- Enable the Add a new e-mail account field and click on
the Next button.
- The Email Accounts Server Type dialog
will open.
- Enable the Microsoft Exchange Server field and click on
the Next button.
- The Email Accounts Exchange Server Settings
dialog will open.

- Type law-be2.law.georgetown.edu in the Microsoft Exchange
Server field.
- Enable the Used Cached Exchange mode field.
- Type your Net ID in the User Name field.
- Click on the More Settings button. (This step may take
several minutes to complete.)
- If you are configuring Outlook on campus, you will be asked to authenticate.
Click on the Cancel button. (You may have to do this several
times).
- If you are configuring Outlook off campus, you will receive an action
cannot be completed warning, followed by a generic Mail
dialog. Click on the OK button for both dialogs.
- The Microsoft Exchange Server dialog will open.

- Go to the Connection tab.
- Enable the Connect to My Exchange Mailbox Using HTTP field.
- Click on the Exchange Proxy button.
- The Exchange Proxy Settings dialog will open.

- Type mail.law.georgetown.edu in the Use this URL to Connect
to my Proxy Server for Exchange field.
- Enable the Mutually Authenticate this Session when Connecting with
SSL field.
- Type msstd:mail.law.georgetown.edu in the Principal Name
for Proxy Server field.
- Enable the On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect
using TC/PIP field.
- Enable the On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect
using TC/PIP field.
- Using the dropdown arrow to the right of the Proxy Authentication
Settings field, choose the Basic Authentication
option.
- Click on the OK button.
- You will return to the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog.
- Click on the OK button.
- You will return to the Email Accounts Exchange
Server Settings dialog.
- Click on the Next button.
- The Email Accounts Congratulations dialog
will open.
- Click on the Finish button.
- You will return to the Mail dialog, where your new profile
will be listed.
- Click on the OK button.
- Start Outlook.
- The Choose Profile dialog will open.
- Select your LawMail profile and click on the OK button.
- The Connect to dialog will open.

- Make sure that gulaw\[YourNet ID] appears in the User Name
field.
- Type your Law Center password in the Password field.
- Click on the OK button.
- Outlook will connect and begin synchronizing your mailbox. (This may take
a few minutes, depending on your network connection and the size of your mailbox.
At the end of the synchronization process, you will finally see all of your
messages. Hold strong.)
