Joint Degree Programs ruler

The Law Center sponsors degree programs in which a student may simultaneously pursue study leading to the Juris Doctor (JD) from the Law Center and a graduate degree from the Georgetown University School of Business Administration (MBA), Georgetown Public Policy Institute (MPP), School of Foreign Service (MSFS, MAAS, MAREES, MAGES, MALAS, and MASSP), the Department of Government (JD/PhD), the Department of Philosophy (JD/MA, JD/PhD), or the Law Center (JD/LLM). A JD/MPH is also offered in cooperation with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (MPH).

The JD/MBA, JD/MPP, and JD/School of Foreign Service programs provide for accelerated achievement of two degrees in four years instead of the five normally required to complete the degrees separately. JD/Government and JD/Philosophy degrees are also accelerated, with completion depending on whether a student is full-time or part-time and is a Masters or Doctoral candidate.

The JD/MPH degree program, while not an accelerated program, affords students who are not health professionals the opportunity to coordinate the study of law and public health at two highly respected institutions.

Georgetown also offers four JD/LLM joint degree programs:  in International Business & Economic Law, National Security Law, Securities & Financial Regulation, and Taxation. Students who participate in one of these programs and take the requisite number of qualifying courses during their JD studies will be able to complete an LLM degree in only one additional semester. Students generally apply to these joint degree programs during the summer following their 2L or 3E year. For more information about these joint degree programs,  go to:  http://www.law.georgetown.edu/graduate/DegreePrograms.htm.

For information on admissions requirements and application procedures for the joint degree programs, contact the Office of Admissions. Students must apply separately to the Law Center and to the companion graduate program.

Transfer students must complete a minimum of 54 credits at the Law Center. Credits awarded for work completed in a graduate program will not count toward the 54 Law Center credits.
