Michael K. Dupee
|
JD/MBA 2000
|
After graduating from Boston College with a degree in History, Michael worked for several years as operations assistant and buyer for a specialty coffee roasting company.
The JD/MBA program has allowed him to pursue his interest in business in combination with a law degree. At the Law Center, Michael is a staff member of the American Criminal Law Review, for which he co-authored an article on corporate criminal liability and organizational sentencing. At the McDonough School of Business, he is vice president of the Georgetown M.B.A. finance club, an analyst in the graduate investment fund, and an active member of the Georgetown M.B.A. community service fund.
In addition to a school-year internship with the Office of Economic Affairs at the Securities and Exchange Commission, Michael has had summer work experience as a law clerk to the Committee on the Judiciary of the United States Senate, where he analyzed the legal aspects of the proposed tobacco settlement and proposed products liability reform bills; as a summer associate at a Manhattan law firm, where he worked in structured finance/lending and corporate law. Michael will be a summer associate at a Manhattan investment bank, working in fixed income and debt capital markets this coming summer.
"I came to Georgetown with the goal of creating options
for myself, and through the J.D./M.B.A.
program, I have succeeded. I came from
private industry, and while at Georgetown, I've worked
in government, law, and finance. When
I graduate, I will have the powerful
analytical tools provided by a legal education, a solid
understanding of fundamental business
skills and commercial contexts through
my work at the business school and on Wall Street, and
the global credibility of the Georgetown
diploma -- I will be able to go just
about anywhere and do nearly anything!"

JD/MSFS 2000
|
Peggy attended Harvard University, where she graduated magna
cum laude with an A.B. in East Asian Studies. Following graduation, Peggy
developed curriculum and taught classes in Chinese history to high school
seniors.
The JD/MSFS joint degree program provided her an opportunity to pursue her interest in international affairs in combination with a law degree. Once at Georgetown, Peggy worked as an international business analyst focusing on joint venture and acquisitions opportunities in Asia. She has also worked for an investment corporation researching investment climates in developing countries. She served as a student representative for the MSFS program and is a member of the Law and Policy in International Business Journal. As a law fellow, she teaches a weekly small section of the first year legal research and writing course. Last summer she worked as a summer associate in Boston, where she researched and wrote memoranda on a broad range of legal issues.
"Georgetown's JD/MSFS program gives me the opportunity to
gain an excellent legal education while simultaneously pursuing
my interest in international affairs. I have access to a
wealth of resources -- fantastic
courses to choose from on both campuses, two committed faculty
bodies, and most importantly, fellow students who make the
learning environment challenging
and exciting. As today's global economy continues to grow,
I know that the skills I am developing at Georgetown will
serve me well in my future career."

JD/Government 1999
|
Sara attended Georgetown University for her undergraduate
education, graduating summa cum laude in 1995. While at Georgetown, she
majored in American Government and completed a minor in English. During
her junior year, she studied at Oxford University in England, studying
British and Russian politics and rowing on her college's crew team.
Sara entered the JD/Government joint degree program in the fall of 1995. She completed the first year of coursework for the Ph.D. that year. Her subfield is American Politics, and she worked as a teaching assistant for Prof. Robert Katzmann in his Constitutional Law class.
Beginning in 1996, Sara studied at the Law Center, graduating in 1999. While at the Law Center, Sara was Managing Editor of The Georgetown Law Journal and competed for two years on the National Mock Trial Team.
"What I value most about the joint degree program at
Georgetown," Sara said, "is both
its short term and long term benefits.
During the interviewing season for
summer jobs, participating in a unique
academic program really made my resume stand out. I was asked
about the program a lot. Also, the
chance to combine a substantial research
project in the social sciences with
my legal studies is something that
students only in the J.D. program
do not have the opportunity to do. The long term benefits are
harder to describe but I think it
will really help me if I decide to
teach at a law school in the future.
The firm at which I worked this summer
also said that they would really
value a Ph.D. in a new associate,
for the research and writing skills
it naturally entails. Finally, because
the program allows me to finish two
degrees in the amount of time it
takes a lot of people to finish just
the Ph.D., it is a good incentive
for someone who is interested both
in law and government."
