Information for Current JD Students

1L/1E Students
With the exception of the JD/MASSP Program, students may apply to a joint degree program during their first year of law school.* General information about the admissions requirements for each of the joint degree programs is available from each companion program. Applications must be requested from the companion program and applicants who are current law students are judged by the same criteria as all other applicants to these programs. Current JD students who plan to apply to a joint degree program should consult Tara Sarathy, Director, JD Programs at (202) 662-9039 or trs34@law.georgetown.edu to discuss their plans for meeting the requirements of the JD degree.

2L/2E Students
Under some circumstances, second year law students may still be able to apply to a joint degree program. Consult Tara Sarathy if you are interested in applying to a companion program as a second year law student to discuss their plans for meeting the requirements of the JD degree.

Other Interdisciplinary Study:  Concurrent Degrees

Students interested in pursuing interdisciplinary study outside Georgetown Law's established joint degree programs should consult Tara Sarathy, Director, JD Programs at (202) 662-9039. Before registering for any concurrent coursework, students must submit a written proposal and meet with Tara Sarathy to discuss the various Law Center requirements with respect to a concurrent course of study.  If prior permission is granted, the Law Center will count toward the JD degree up to 6 credits earned after the first year of law school in a non-law graduate degree program.

*  Beginning in January 2011, SSP policy requires applicants interested in admission to the joint Georgetown SSP M.A./J.D. program apply to both the M.A. and the J.D. programs simultaneously. Students must apply independently to both the Law Center and the SSP and be admitted to both in order to be considered joint degree program students. Applicants who have already begun their studies at the Law Center or at the SSP will not be considered for admission to the joint degree program. For questions about this policy, please contact the SSP Admissions department at sspinfo@georgetown.edu or 202-687-5679.
