The Georgetown Law Journal is, first and foremost, a scholarly journal; central to our mission is the publication of rigorous and original contributions to the legal literature, both academic and practical. Articles and essays concerning all areas of the law are published in our six annual issues and our Annual Review of Criminal Procedure.

The Journal will give strong preference to articles under 35,000 words in length – the equivalent of 70 law review pages – including text and footnotes. The Journal will publish articles exceeding 35,000 words in length only in extraordinary circumstances. Authors are encouraged to provide a word count that includes text and footnotes to facilitate faster review of their manuscripts.

Please read the Joint Law Review Statement on Article Length.

Submitting a Manuscript

Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis, beginning in February and concluding when the volume is filled, typically in mid-October.

The Journal’s preferred method for receiving submissions is through our electronic submission system. To use our system for direct electronic submission to the Journal, we ask you create an electronic account and submit your electronic manuscript through this system. To do so:

1. Make certain your article file name is not longer than ten characters, with no spaces - for example, smith.doc would be OK, while smith_anarticleforgeorgetown.doc would not.

2. Go to http://www.law.georgetown.edu/amsauthor/

3. Select "Submit article to: Georgetown Law Journal"

4. Follow the instructions to create an account, and then submit your electronic document(s)

Please understand that not all Georgetown journals are currently accepting electronic submissions in this manner. Therefore, before submitting to another Georgetown journal from this webpage, please contact that journal's editors to make certain this is their preferred method of receiving electronic submissions.

You are also welcome to submit via ExpressO by following this link, and ExpressO will deliver the article to our system.

Alternatively, if you wish to submit a hardcopy, please submit to:

Requests for Expedited Review

Requests for expedited review should be made only via email to glj@law.georgetown.edu. Please use "Expedited Review Request" and the article title as the subject line of the email, and include the following information in the body of the email: the author's name, the article's title, a contact phone number, the journal making the offer, and the deadline for the expedited review to be completed. Because of the large number of expedited review requests we receive and the limited time frame that we have to complete the review, we are not always able to personally respond to each request. We will make every effort to review each expedite within the time constraints given and will contact you directly if we are unable to complete our review.
