Center for the Study of the Legal Profession ruler

On April 17-18 2008, the Center will sponsor a symposium on The Future of the Global Law Firm.  Australian law firm Slater & Gordon has recently issued stock to outside non-lawyer investors, and pending United Kingdom legislation would permit law firms there to do the same.  These developments may dramatically change the dynamics of global law practice, raising a host of financial, organizational, and ethical issues.  All these issues will be the subject of presentations and discussion at the symposium.

Invited participants will include scholars, lawyers, and law firm experts from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.  The Slater & Gordon prospectus is available at http://www.legalethicsroundtable.typepad.com/.  The pending UK legislation is at http://www./official-documents.gov.uk/document/cm68/6839/6839.asp.  For further information, please contact either Professor Regan at 202-662-9414 or regan@law.georgetown.edu, or Professor Bauman at 202-662-9061 or bauman@law.georgetown.edu.
