Georgetown Doctors and Lawyers Discuss District’s New Medical-Legal Partnership

September 12, 2017 —

How can a new medical-legal partnership make a difference in health disparities in the District and beyond? Directors of the new Georgetown University Health Justice Alliance explain the new partnership – which now offers services at the city’s largest homeless shelter and Anacostia High’s school health center – during a panel discussion, Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Georgetown.

The Health Justice Alliance was launched by Georgetown Law and the Georgetown University Medical Center to prepare future generations of lawyers, doctors, nurses and other health professionals to work together to help vulnerable individuals overcome health crises while addressing the legal crises that often underlie them.  It is the first medical-legal partnership with law and medical student leaders at the forefront.  It is also the first to include a robust research component from the onset, with the aim of forging best practices in this burgeoning approach to tackling health disparities.
