Professor Wally Mlyniec Receives Georgetown Alumni Association Award

Georgetown University Law Center Professor Wally Mlyniec has been selected as the recipient of the Faculty Recognition Award by the Georgetown University Alumni Association. The award was presented during the Alumni Association service recognition awards banquet on February 8.

The Faculty Recognition Award honors “outstanding service to the Georgetown University Alumni Association by faculty members who have exhibited leadership across many activities, such as work with the Board of Governors, alumni clubs, class programs and/or participation in other school activities.”  

In addition to Mlyniec’s work with students and alumni, he was also recognized for his role in leading the architectural development of the Law Center’s campus and efforts to keep alumni, main campus colleagues, and the Washington community apprised of that development through construction blogs, campus-wide presentations and his book, Construction Notes: Transforming a Campus in Washington, D.C. 

Mlyniec is the director of the Juvenile Justice clinic and the Lupo-Ricci Professor of Clinical Legal Studies at Georgetown Law. He also teaches courses in wrongful convictions and clinical pedagogy, and assists with the training of the fellows in the Prettyman Legal Internship Program. He was associate dean for clinical education and public service from 1986 to 2005. 

Mlyniec is the author of numerous books and articles and the recipient of several awards, including the William Pincus Award for his contributions to clinical legal education and the Stuart Stiller Award and Robert Drinan Award for his commitment to legal service in the public interest. 

Mlyniec is a graduate of Northwestern University and Georgetown Law.
