Edward Piper

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University Law Center Dean T. Alexander Aleinikoff has appointed Edward Piper as Director of Security and Emergency Planning. He succeeds Raymond Smith, who retired earlier this summer.

"Ed Piper’s experience in security training, emergency planning and crisis management will be a great asset to Georgetown Law," Aleinikoff said. "We are very pleased to welcome him to our team."

As Director of Security and Emergency Planning, Piper’s duties will include supervision of the security staff as well as emergency and business continuity planning.

Piper comes to Georgetown Law with 30 years of experience in security, intelligence and emergency preparedness. He has led security operations at the Anne Arundel County Public Schools (Maryland), Harford Community College (Maryland) and the U.S. Naval Intelligence Reserve, and served as a consultant for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Humane Society of the United States, the Maryland Governor’s Office and the Baltimore County Police Department. In addition, Piper has developed and taught numerous courses on security and crisis management, most recently at Johns Hopkins University.

Piper received a B.A. from the University of Baltimore and holds a graduate degree in applied behavioral science from Johns Hopkins University.
