WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University Law Center is pleased to announce that it will send five recent graduates to the D.C. Attorney General’s office to spend a year working as Charles (Chuck) F.C. Ruff Fellows, starting in early 2012.

"We look forward to collaborating with the D.C. Attorney General’s office to provide talented Law Center graduates to work on important District of Columbia legal issues," said Georgetown Law Dean William M. Treanor. "The Ruff Fellowship program continues our strong tradition of public service, and we are particularly pleased that it honors our former faculty member, Charles Ruff."

The Ruff Fellowship program was created to address the District’s need for more lawyers to represent its interests and to capitalize on the recent spike in popularity for public interest legal work. D.C. Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan said that the program "will provide significant benefits to the District’s legal services as well as excellent practical experience for new lawyers."

Ruff was the last special prosecutor in the Watergate investigation and served as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. He was Corporation Counsel for the District of Columbia from 1995 to 1997 before serving as White House counsel to President Bill Clinton. Ruff died in 2000.
