WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University Law Center Dean T. Alexander Aleinikoff is pleased to announce the appointment of Georgetown Law Professor Robin West to the Frederick J. Haas Chair in Law and Philosophy. She will be formally installed on February 19.

"Robin West is a highly-regarded scholar and inspiring teacher," Aleinikoff said. "This recognition of her achievements is well-deserved."

West came to Georgetown Law from the University of Maryland Law School, where she taught from 1986 to 1991. She has been a visiting professor at the University of Chicago and Stanford Law Schools. She also taught at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University from 1982 to 1985.

West has written extensively on gender issues and feminist legal theory, constitutional law and theory, jurisprudence, legal philosophy, and law and literature. Her most recent books are "Marriage, Sexuality, and Gender" (Paradigm Publishers, 2007) and "Re-imagining Justice" (Ashgate Press, 2003).

The Frederick J. Haas Chair in Law and Philosophy, previously held by Georgetown Law Professor David Luban, was established by the late Frederick J. Haas with a gift from his estate. After receiving his LL.M. degree at Georgetown Law in 1926, Haas returned to the family-owned agricultural business founded by his father, the John I. Haas Company, as Chairman and CEO. He died in 1991.
