WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University Law Center Dean T. Alexander Aleinikoff has appointed Professor Robin West as associate dean for research and academic programs, effective July 1. She will succeed Lawrence Gostin, who will return to the faculty.

"Robin is a scholar’s scholar. Her wide-ranging interests and breadth of scholarship make her an ideal dean for research and academic programs," said Aleinikoff. "The Law Center is deeply grateful for Larry’s service. His work on behalf of our scholarly community is appreciated by all."

As associate dean for research and academic programs, West will be responsible for matters concerning both faculty research and scholarship and for major issues of curriculum design and innovation.

"I love this faculty. Their scholarly projects are always interesting, and often genuinely inspiring," said West. "I look forward to helping our diverse faculty and fellows develop their scholarship in any way I can."

West, who was appointed to the Frederick J. Haas Chair in Law and Philosophy earlier this year, came to Georgetown Law from the University of Maryland Law School, where she taught from 1986 to 1991. She has been a visiting professor at the University of Chicago and Stanford Law Schools. She also taught at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University from 1982 to 1985.

West has written extensively on gender issues and feminist legal theory, constitutional law and theory, jurisprudence, legal philosophy, and law and literature. Her most recent books are "Marriage, Sexuality, and Gender" (Paradigm Publishers, 2007) and "Re-imagining Justice" (Ashgate Press, 2003).
