WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University Law Center applauds the formation of the Northeast Electric Vehicle Network, an initiative that is supported and facilitated by the Law Center's Georgetown Climate Center. The Network will help expedite the deployment of electric vehicles throughout the Northeast and is part of an overall strategy to expand availability of clean vehicles and fuels.

"We are proud to be a part of this pathbreaking endeavor," said Georgetown Law Dean William M. Treanor. "We are pleased that Georgetown Law, the Georgetown Climate Center and our students can play an important role in helping states build a clean energy future."

The initiative, which was launched this week by transportation, energy and environment officials from ten northeast states and the District of Columbia, will bolster economic growth, maintain the region’s leadership in the clean energy economy and reduce the area’s dependence on oil and its emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. The project is supported by a nearly $1 million planning grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

As part of their ongoing collaboration through the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI), which the Georgetown Climate Center also facilitates, participating jurisdictions will promote clean vehicles and fuels and plan for the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and related infrastructure throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. The group will also work together to attract additional public and private investment in infrastructure for clean vehicles.

Participants in the Northeast Electric Vehicle Network are Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
