WASHINGTON, D.C. - Women lawyers and students from local law schools will soon be dominating the courts in full force – the basketball courts.

They will compete in the first annual "Get in the Game" lady lawyers basketball tournament on Saturday, April 22 at Georgetown University's Yates Field House, facing off in teams representing local firms and law schools.  Tournament games will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a clinic led by the Georgetown University women’s basketball team at 12:00 p.m.

Building on the success of this one-day tournament, there are plans to launch a regular lady lawyers basketball league this spring.

"There are plenty of 'lawyer leagues' and recreational leagues comprised mostly of men in the D.C. area, but finding a place to play with all women is nearly impossible," said Georgetown Law student and tournament coordinator, Lindsay Amstutz.  "The goal of this event is to give women a chance to play, while getting to know our current and future colleagues in a relaxed and fun setting."

The tournament is sponsored by the Georgetown University Law Center women's basketball club.  For more information, please contact getinthegamehoops@gmail.com.  Media interested in attending should contact Kara Tershel at kat5@law.georgetown.edu.
