WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University Law Center Dean T. Alexander Aleinikoff has appointed Albert G. Lauber, Jr. as director of the school's graduate tax and securities programs. Lauber, most recently a partner at Caplin & Drysdale, is a former deputy solicitor general of the United States. He succeeds Michael J. Grace, who served as director since 2003. Lauber’s appointment is effective January 1, 2006. "The Law Center is very fortunate to have someone of Albert's caliber to lead our graduate tax and securities programs," Aleinikoff said. "Albert is a highly regarded tax attorney who brings a wealth of experience to Georgetown. He will be a great asset to the program and to our students." "I am excited by the opportunity to join a world-class institution like Georgetown Law, Lauber said. "As a young lawyer, I took a number of classes in the graduate tax program myself, which helped me tremendously in my legal career. It is a great honor to be asked to become director of this program." In his new role, Lauber will be responsible for Georgetown's Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation and in Securities and Financial Regulation. He will oversee the curriculum, program development, and adjunct faculty recruiting. He will also serve as the academic advisor to graduate students in the tax and securities programs.
About Tax Law at Georgetown Georgetown Law offers one of the most extensive curricula in taxation law taught in any law school. This broad selection can be attributed in part to the rich talent pool from which Georgetown draws adjunct tax faculty as well as its distinguished full-time faculty. The graduate program includes Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation and in Securities and Financial Regulation. Annually ranked among the preeminent programs of its kind, the Master of Laws in Taxation has the highest enrollment (more than 200 students) among the graduate programs at the Law Center. Georgetown's Tax LL.M. program offers a unique combination of expert adjunct faculty and full-time tax faculty, and the opportunity to experience Washington, D.C., the nation's center of tax policymaking, rulemaking, and publishing. Adjunct faculty drawn from the staffs of congressional tax-writing committees, the U.S. Treasury Department, the IRS, the U.S. Tax Court, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, as well as leading law and accounting firms, teach most of the graduate level courses. Located within blocks of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Law Center's Master of Laws in Securities and Financial Regulation begins with core courses that pertain to activities regulated by the SEC. The curriculum also includes classes that address the commodity futures markets, the mutual fund industry, banks and insurance companies, financial accounting and reporting, corporate finance, corporate governance, financial derivatives, project finance, securities litigation, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital and technology transactions. Adjunct faculty drawn from the SEC and other regulatory agencies, as well as leading Washington law firms, teach many of the courses.
