WASHINGTON, D.C. – Georgetown Law students swept the American Bar Association's annual Law Student Tax Challenge, claiming first and second place, as well as the prize for "Best Written Submission," in a national competition for LL.M. students, which was held in San Diego on February 3.

Michael Gitlin and Kelley Miller claimed the top honor, while Agnieszka Samoc and Jeffrey Malo came in second and also won the award for "Best Written Submission." The team of Sonia Chien and Michele Hyndman also placed as finalists in the competition.  The first- and second-place teams were coached by Georgetown Law Adjunct Professor Fred Murray and the finalists by Georgetown Law Adjunct Professor Paul Schmidt.

The ABA Law Student Tax Challenge is one of the nation's largest tax competitions for law students and involves tax planning and client-counseling exercises designed to closely reflect everyday tax practice. The judges included some of the top practitioners and tax experts in the country. This is the first year that the ABA has offered this competition for students earning advanced law or LL.M. degrees.

Georgetown Law offers one of the most extensive curricula in taxation law taught at any law school. This broad selection can be attributed in part to the rich talent pool from which Georgetown draws adjunct tax faculty as well as its distinguished full-time faculty.
