Dean Judith Areen
|
Alex Aleinikoff is one of the nation's most able scholars
in not one but two fields: Constitutional Law and Immigration
Law. I am absolutely delighted that he will
be the next dean. In addition to being an accomplished scholar,
Alex is a dedicated teacher, respected colleague and admired
public servant. He is also a natural leader and a good friend.
Since joining the faculty in 1997, Alex has made an impressive
mark at the Law Center. Last July, he took on the additional
responsibilities of serving as Associate Dean for Research.
In that role, he has already demonstrated the skills and temperament
of a great dean.
His appointment comes at an important time in the history
of the institution. With one of the most distinguished faculties
in the nation, Georgetown Law Center attracted more applicants
this year (12,000) than any other school in the history of
legal education. It has become a world leader in many areas,
including constitutional, international, tax and clinical
law. In Alex, we have a visionary leader who will increase
our global presence at the same time he continues the traditions
and values we all hold dear.
I look forward to working closely with Alex to ensure a smooth
transition. I will leave my post at the end of the academic
year to return to the faculty with the knowledge that the
Law Center is in strong, capable and caring hands.
