PROFESSOR GINSBURG RECEIVES ABA TAX SECTION DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In recognition of his outstanding service to the legal profession and tax education, Georgetown University Law Center Professor Martin D. Ginsburg was presented the 2006 Distinguished Service Award from the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Taxation. He received the honor on May 5. Established in 1995, the Distinguished Service Award is presented each year in honor of exceptional contributions to the tax system and tax bar. "Marty Ginsburg is an outstanding lawyer and law professor," said Dennis B. Drapkin, chair of the Section of Taxation. "He exemplifies the best of both the practitioner and teaching professions, and has earned this distinction with grace, intelligence and a wonderful sense of humor." Ginsburg joined the Georgetown Law faculty in 1980. Before coming to Georgetown, he was the Beekman Professor of Law at Columbia Law School. He has been an adjunct and visiting professor at New York University School of Law, and a visiting professor at Stanford Law School, Harvard Law School, and the University of Chicago Law School. Ginsburg served on the council of the ABA Section of Taxation and as chair of its Committee on Simplification. He also chaired the Tax Section of the New York State Bar Association and the Committee on Taxation of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He has served on advisory groups to the Internal Revenue Service Commissioner and the Tax Division of the Department of Justice. The co-author of "Mergers, Acquisitions, and Buyouts," Ginsburg is the author of many articles on corporate and partnership taxation and business acquisitions.
