WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University Law Center is pleased to announce that under a new agreement with Renmin University of China School of Law, up to ten Renmin graduate law students will spend one year studying at Georgetown Law. The students will receive a Georgetown LL.M. degree before returning to China to complete their Renmin degree requirements. The annual program will begin in the 2007-2008 academic year.

Wendy Collins Perdue, Associate Dean of Georgetown Law’s graduate programs, traveled to Renmin in July, where she toured the campus and met with Wang LiMing, dean of Renmin’s School of Law.  “We are excited about this new partnership between Georgetown and Renmin, one of China’s outstanding law schools,” said Perdue.  “We look forward to welcoming the Renmin students to our campus next year.”

Located in Beijing, Renmin University of China is one of China’s best known institutions of higher learning.  Renmin’s School of Law currently enrolls nearly 3,000 students, most of whom are seeking graduate law degrees, and has over 50 faculty members.  The law school consists of 15 research centers, including two in the humanities and social sciences.  It publishes journals in law and science and administers a Website on Chinese civil and commercial law.

Georgetown Law’s LL.M. program is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the U.S.  It offers degrees in international legal studies, global health law, taxation, securities and financial regulation, and general legal studies and certificates in World Trade Organization (WTO) law, national securities law, international human rights law, estate planning, and employee benefits law.  Each year, the program attracts students from over 55 countries and six continents, including 350 students from the U.S.
