September 23, 2013 — Kevin Hillery (L’15) threw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals game against the Miami Marlins on Sunday, September 22. Hillery, a Georgetown Law 2L and 2012 U.S. Naval Academy graduate, was selected for the honor just last week. “I was very surprised — it was shocking but exciting,” Hillery says.
He was never a baseball player — and as for being a fan, the Massachusetts native says diplomatically that he supports teams wherever he happens to be. “When I’m home, I like to see the Red Sox do well, and since moving to D.C., I’ve been enjoying the Nats games.”
Hillery became the first paraplegic to earn a diploma from the Naval Academy after being injured in a biking accident in 2011.
As for his Monday classes — in National Security Crisis Law and Access to Health Care and Coverage — Hillery said: “I’ll arrange [them] around the game and get my work done.”
