Lawyers in Balance

The study and practice of the law are, without a doubt, emotionally challenging.  The Law Center does an outstanding job of providing students with the mental skills necessary for practice.  We want to take this one step further and devote time to teaching and preparing students for the stressful lifestyle that often accompanies the legal profession.  We have adapted a course from the Georgetown University School of Medicine for use by law students.  The course is designed to teach a number of mind-body skills and techniques that should help students to reduce stress and to maintain a balance between professional and personal lives.

"This has been one of the most incredible life-changing courses for me.  I cannot speak highly enough or devote the time to discuss in enough detail all the positive changes in my life, nearly all of which I attribute to this course."

Mind-body approaches – including self-awareness, relaxation, meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback, nutrition, physical exercise, art, music, and movement – are among the best known and most widely used approaches to stress reduction.  In addition, by their very nature, they place high value on, and teach the power of, self-awareness and self-care.
