- Spreading America's Word: Lunch Presentation by Paul Carrington
Friday, April 7, 2006, 12:30 pm • McDonough Hall, Room 344
Duke Law Professor (and former Dean) Paul Carrington will make a presentation based on his recent book "Spreading America's Word: Feats and Failures of American Lawyers as Secular Missionaries." Pizza, drinks and dessert will be served. All are invited.
"Paul Carrington suggests that if the West is to be the best we must revalue the virtues of humility and tolerance for cultural differences. His book is a major challenge to the claim that the world would be a better place if only our laws, norms, and conceptions of human rights could be exported to all regions of the world and universally embraced as divine or universal truth." -- Richard A, Shweder, University of Chicago
* Support for arranging panel participation by Fulbright & Jaworski’s International Arbitration Group is gratefully acknowledged.
