Personalized Medicine
The Issue in Brief
The O’Neill Institute partnered with NHS to convene a scholarly forum on the opportunities and challenges of personalized medicine. This event provided a space for stakeholders from a variety of disciplines to discuss ethical, legal, social, political, and practical issues related to the realization of personalized medicine in health care. The June 2 forum contributed to the discourse on this rapidly emerging technology that has significant and global implications.
Georgetown University Press will publish a book that includes perspectives shared at the conference.
This forum was led by a committee which included Julie Deloia (Assistant Dean, NHS), Kevin Fitzgerald (Faculty, Medical Center) Irene Jillson (Faculty, NHS), and John Monahan (Executive Director, O’Neill Institute). Georgetown Law faculty member Pat King is preparing a paper (co-authored by O’Neill Institute Fellow Katrina Pagonis) exploring the ethical issues raised by this emerging technology.
