Better Food, Better Health
Why the O'Neill Institute

Since its inception, the O’Neill Institute has been problem-solving complex issues that have a negative impact on the public’s health. Drawing on the depth of resources provided by Georgetown University and the O’Neill Institute’s distinct posture as a neutral convener, we are able to use our position to present objective and thoughtful solutions to the world’s most pressing health problems.

Georgetown law faculty experts in food law, Lisa Heinzerling and David Vladeck, as well as a renowned expert in legislative and regulatory drafting and interpretation, Tim Westmoreland, will guide this project. Professor Heinzerling wrote a casebook on Food Law, and is a frequent lecturer on the topic. Professor Vladeck recently returned to Georgetown Law after serving as the Director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. Professor Westmoreland is a longtime veteran of Capitol Hill serving for almost two decades as the Counsel to the Subcommittee on Health and the Environment in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In addition to our internal experts, the O’Neill Institute is proud of its large network of external colleagues, including distinguished experts in food law from across the United States, who we will invite to participate in framing the white papers. Aliza Glasner and Sarah Roache, attorneys on the O’Neill Institute’s legal team with expertise in food law, will write a white paper detailing the expert committee findings and disseminate ensuing materials through a carefully devised action plan to make the most headway during the 2016 election cycle.
