Financial Support and Summer Funding

SUMMER:
Georgetown provides substantial financial support to students and alumni pursuing public interest and government legal opportunities through a variety of different programs.

Students who seek public interest internships for the summer will find that many of those internships are unpaid--though fortunately, there are a number of programs that offer law students a stipend to fund their summer work.  Our Georgetown in-house funding program, the Equal Justice Foundation (EJF) Summer Fellowship, offers a guaranteed stipend to all 1L, 2L, and 3E Georgetown Law students that work for eligible public sector employers.  In addition, there are many external funding programs that require students to first secure a job on their own in order to apply for a summer stipend.  Details on both the EJF Fellowship and external funding are available from the links below.

PUBLIC INTEREST LAW SCHOLARS PROGRAM:
The Law Center's Public Interest Law Scholars Program (PILS) is designed for law students who want to dedicate most or all of their careers to public service.  The Program awards incoming JD students with financial scholarships and the guarantee of summer employment stipends.

LOAN REPAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:
Georgetown Law began its Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) in 1986 to assist JD graduates in pursuing careers in the field of public interest law.  Graduates who qualify for LRAP benefits receive assistance with monthly student loan payments in the form of interest-free loans from Georgetown Law.  LRAP provides assistance to:  1) JD graduates who are employed or self-employed on a full-time, paid basis, in a law-related capacity by a non-profit entity that has as one of its primary purposes the rendering of legal services to or on behalf of persons or organizations that could not otherwise obtain like services, and 2) JD graduates who are employed on a full-time, paid basis, in a law-related capacity by a government agency that has as one of its primary purposes the rendering of legal services on behalf of the public.
