International Internship Program ruler

During summer 2009, over 100 Georgetown students interned abroad with organizations in over forty countries. The organizations included government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), intergovernmental organizations, private law firms, and corporate in-house legal departments. Approximately one-third of the internships have been in the public sector each year of this program.

Now in its 15th year, the Law Center's International Internship Program has grown into a nationally recognized institution. Student interest in international internships is extraordinarily high, and last spring approximately 300 students submitted resumes. Newly-accepted students often report that they chose to attend the Law Center over other schools because of this special program and Georgetown's long-standing reputation in the international arena.

Sponsors have been equally enthusiastic about the program and the interns with whom they have worked. Several organizations, in fact, have been continuously supportive and have sponsored one or more interns each summer. Sponsors determine what year student they will sponsor, duration of the internship, remuneration (if any), types of assignments, and hiring criteria. Many of these internships require proficiency in a foreign language.

Information on employers participating in summer 2010 will be available on Symplicity on January 7, 2010. Students must upload their resumes to bid on employers, and bids are due on January 20, 2010.

OPICS and OCS will host an information session about the International Internship Program and other means by which to find international internships TODAY, Monday, November 16, McDonough 202, at 3:30 pm. The information session will be recorded and posted on this website.
