ESADE, located in Barcelona, Spain, is part of Ramon Llull University. ESADE has both a prestigious business school and an outstanding law school. ESADE School of Law has developed an extensive international and comparative law curriculum to meet the growing demand for globalization in education. Georgetown students attending ESADE will benefit not only from the high caliber of the curriculum and faculty, but also from living in one of the most exciting cities in Europe. Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and one ripe in history and culture. As the capital of Catalonia, Barcelona is the home of the Parliament of Catalonia and the Supreme Court of Catalonia. Barcelona offers incomparable art, as well as cultural and social activities. Georgetown students will be participating in the combined undergraduate and master's in program in law while at ESADE. They will be attending classes with ESADE students pursuing their fourth and fifth years of the law degree, as well as students seeking a Master's or Postgraduate diploma. Students participating in this program are required to have a high level of Spanish proficiency. The Office of International and Transnational Programs reserves the right to ask students to submit to language testing before issuing final approval for their participation. A total of four places in this program are available to Georgetown students. FALL 2011 ACADEMIC CALENDAR Confirmed dates for 2012 will be provided to admitted students over the summer.
AVAILABLE COURSES A list of courses available for 2012 will be available in late spring or summer. Click here for a list of courses that were available in 2011. Most of the courses listed above are elective courses and will be scheduled for Thursdays and Fridays. Legal ethics, Comparative Law, and Negotiation skills are mandatory for ESADE students and are usually scheduled for Monday-Wednesday. It is suggested that students take Introduction to Spanish Law. With some courses, exams are regularly scheduled after the Christmas holiday. In this case, students should speak to the professor at the beginning of the semester to arrange a date and time to take the exam in December. At ESADE, 4.5 undergraduate law credits equal 2.25 Georgetown credits. Most undergraduate courses are 4.5 ESADE credits. Note that Georgetown will not transfer partial credit toward a student's JD, credit totals will be rounded down to the next whole credit. HOUSING The International Exchange office at ESADE will provide a student guide with contact information for housing agencies and student residences in Barcelona. Students are expected to arrange their own housing for the semester with this information. There are also announcements on the ESADE Intranet (to which Georgetown students will have access) and student counselors who can help with the process. APPLICATION TIMELINE
