Melbourne Law School, at the University of Melbourne, was Australia’s first law school, founded in 1857.  It has since educated judges, prime ministers, and academics, as well a practicing lawyers. Its faculty is at the vanguard of legal education, firmly committed to offering Australia's most globalized program of instruction.  Melbourne recently transitioned to Australia’s first fully-graduate Law School, with its students pursuing Juris Doctor degrees following a broad undergraduate experience.

The city of Melbourne has been ranked as one of the world's most livable cities, sporting and 567.8 hectares of parkland.  The city claims a position as Australia's pre-eminent center for arts and culture, education, dining and shopping.

Two seats in this program are available to Georgetown Law students.

AVAILABLE COURSES

Georgetown students May enroll in elective JD subjects except for the following: Global Lawyer (LAWS50071), Institutions in International Law (LAWS50045), Legal Internship (LAWS50059), Jessup Moot (LAWS50042) and WTO:  Moot Court Competition (LAWS50044).  Students may also enroll in up to one MLM subject, on a space-available basis.  Where MLM classes are at or near capacity, exchange students are placed on a waitlist.  Students may not enroll in compulsory JD subjects. 

Students at Melbourne Law School take a full-time load of four classes per semester.  Georgetown students admitted to this program should expect to enroll in four courses as well.  Students may expect to transfer between twelve and fourteen credits from this program. 

HOUSING

Melbourne does not provide housing, but housing advice is available here - exchange students are eligible for the residential colleges and specialized housing packages outlined at that website.
